The literary sub-genre of zombie lit has been exploding, thanks to a modern zombie film renaissance. After some very successful zombie films such as 28 Days Later and also the remake of Dawn of the Dead, some authors were quick to capitalize on the popularity of the zombie genre. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and World War Z were some of the most popular. Brad Pitt was lately confirmed to star in World War Z.
The eve of destruction by zombies
In 2003, the wildly popular book The Zombie Survival Guide was released, and the author wrote World War Z as a type of follow up. The book is a fictional how to on dealing with the threat of zombies. World War Z came out in 2006, a follow up to that book, which is a collection of interviews with zombie apocalypse survivors. Max Brooks is the author of both novels, the son of Mel Brooks and previous SNL writer. The book was optioned for a film in 2007, and it has been in development for awhile.
This could turn out excellent
At this year’s Comic Con in San Diego, Brad Pitt was announced to star in the film, according to MTV. Paramount has also optioned other works by Max Brooks to be filmed. Marc Forster, director of Quantum of Solace, was attached to direct at one point, but that is likely to change. Fewer zombie films are getting made than within the past few years, so it may be a sign of the resurgent zombie renaissance being on the wane.
You will find more zombies in store
Not only is World War Z due to enter production, there also could be a film of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The mélange of Jane Austen’s classic novel with zombies, ninjas and kung fu within the English countryside will star Natalie Portman and will likely be released sometime within the next year. The number of zombie films has toned down in lieu of melodramatic and insipid vampires and werewolves, but World War Z is apparently set to be epic.
